St. Patrick’s Day


Well, it’s St Patricks Day, according to the Catholic Church, The Anglican Communion, The Eastern Orthodox Church, The Lutheran Church, and every purveyor of alcohol in the world. I guess that makes it official. You did know that even in Lent it’s not a sin to eat and drink heartily on St. Paddy’s, right?

But the bloody Chicoms canceled the public celebrations, so no huge parade in New York, Dublin, or Manchester, no green river in Chicago, no to so many fun traditions that have grown up around the day.

But hey, my corned beef and Jameson is ready anyway, it’ll just be a bit quieter. And that’s OK too.

The rather tragic story of Ireland (and there are at least two sides to it) has largely been forgotten especially by the diaspora, and part of that is that most of us enjoy their company, even us Anglophiles can’t resist…
